  • Commodities from algae
  • In collaboration with Wageningen University Paques will start with the construction of pilot reactors for large-scale cultivation of algae. This research should lead to new ways of producing fuel and food that will take low raw material, energy and space. Working on this means that Paques and Wageningen University contribute to enhancing the quality of life.

  • ANAMMOX® technology used to reduce the energy consumption at WWTP Dokhaven in Rotterdam
  • The use of ANAMMOX® for nitrogen reduction in industrial wastewater treatment and sidestream treatment in sewage treatment plants is now a proven technology. At high nitrogen concentrations and high temperatures, the anammox bacteria provide lower energy consumption than a conventional treatment. Paques, Waterboard Hollandse Delta and researchers from Delft University and Radboud University Nijmegen will now be investigating the use in the mainstream treatment of WWTP Dokhaven in Rotterdam. They receive subsidies from Agentschap NL and STOWA to investigate the applicability of the ANAMMOX® technology at lower nitrogen concentrations and lower temperatures. The research takes place in a two-year pilot and will start in autumn 2010.

  • Paques booked good results in 2009 notwithstanding the worldwide economical crisis
  • Paques booked good results in 2009 notwithstanding the worldwide economical developments. Whereas the company booked a record order intake of 54 million euro and a record net profit of 3,2 million euro in 2008, it stood at respectively 42,8 and 2,2 million euro in 2009. This result is due to fluctuations in orders received for Paques Shanghai (China) during the 3rd and 4th quarter of 2008 and Paques Balk (the Netherlands) in mainly 2009. Despite this setback, the company has managed to maintain return on revenues.

  • BIOPAQ® UASB+ for treating waste water with high COD levels
  • As the focus on water recycling increases, Paques anticipates demands for treating waste water with higher COD levels. Examples of this trend can be found for example in the food and bioethanol industries. For these purposes, the BIOPAQ® UASB+ technology has been developed. It is already applied successfully in several industrial scale plants. For on-site testing purposes, a pilot plant is available.

  • Two new ANAMMOX® pilot plants available for on-site testing
  • Due to an increasing demand for ANAMMOX®, Paques has decided to build two new pilot plants, in addition to the existing ANAMMOX® pilot plant.

These pilot plants are now available for on-site testing. Depending on the ammonium concentration of the water to be treated, this pilot plant can treat 60 - 600 liter waste water per day.

  • Paques builds world's largest ANAMMOX® wastewater treatment plant for ammonium removal in China
  • Paques Environmental Technology Shanghai, a sister company of Paques bv in Balk, the Netherlands, has reached an agreement for the design and supply of the largest effluent treatment plant for ammonium removal in the history of the company. The ANAMMOX® process has a capacity for conversion of 11 tons of nitrogen per day. The size of the plant is almost ten times larger than the largest plant built so far. The water treatment will be supplied to the Meihua Group, a large Chinese producer of among others glutamate, starch and amino acids from maize.
