The Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF)-unit is used to remove solids (TSS) from (waste) water. Like COD and Nitrogen, suspended solids are an important parameter for discharging on surface water.

Working principle
After the coagulation process the wastewater (influent) with the flocculent particles is supplied to the DAF unit, via the mixing chamber, which is located on the bottom of the unit. Here the wastewater is mixed with the so-called ‘white water’, which contains very small air bubbles. This air bubbles attach themselves to the particles in the wastewater and float to the water-surface of the DAF unit and is removed by a skimmer. The cleared effluent leaves the unit through the effluent ring line, close to the sidewall and the bottom.
