Gas can add value in many different ways. Biogas, natural gas and refinery gas contain methane - an essential energy source! Biogas can be used as fuel in a boiler, to produce heat and green electricity in an engine or micro turbine. It can even be upgraded to green natural gas by removing the CO2. Natural gas is used for heating and electricity generation. Refinery gas is  used as a building block for petrol or for heating purposes . Flue gas is purified so it can be emitted to the atmosphere according to environmental legislations providing plants a license to operate.



In order to safely use gases that contain methane, hydrogen sulfide (H2S) needs to be removed. THIOPAQ® scrubbers purify biogas produced by the anaerobic purification of waste water or the digestion of biodegradable solids in a landfill or solids digestor. Paques also applies this cost effective technology for reclaiming sulphur from natural and refinery gas in co-operation with Shell Global Solutions and UOP.
In order to be able to emit flue gas to the atmosphere, sulphur dioxide (SO2) needs to be removed. Removal of SO2 is necessary for environmental reasons. SO2 is the main source for acid rain. In the BIODESOX® process the SO2 is washed out of the flue gas by the scrubbing liquid in an absorber. The SO2 is then biologically converted to elemental sulphur.
